  • Title: The Role of Social Causes in Maternal Mortality in The Turkestan Region

Abstract

Introduction. Child and maternal mortality rates are among the most important indicators reflecting the socioeconomic level and healthcare system in any country.

Objective: To analyze maternal mortality due to extragenital diseases in the Turkestan region for 2013-2022.

Materials and Methods: A retrospective analysis of clinical and pathological data was conducted for the period from 2013 to 2022. Information on the analyzed data was obtained from the Turkestan Regional Pathological Anatomy Bureau and the Pathomorphology Laboratory of the Clinical and Diagnostic Center of the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University. All observations are autopsy material. General information (age, vital signs, coexisting disorders), clinical, laboratory, and patient characteristics data were obtained from electronic medical records.

Results. The article presents the results of an analysis of maternal mortality cases due to extragenital diseases in the Turkestan region for 2013-2022. An analysis of maternal mortality (MM) cases in the Turkestan region over a 10-year period (2013-2022) reveals a steady increase in extragenital diseases (EGD) in the region. Along with a decline in the maternal mortality rate per 100,000 live births (44.6 in 2013, 17.4 in 2022) and a decrease in the number of maternal deaths from preeclampsia/eclampsia and abortion, a steady trend toward increased mortality from causes unrelated to pregnancy and childbirth persists.

Conclusion: It has been established that the maternal mortality rate is becoming increasingly dependent on social factors and the increasing incidence of extragenital diseases in women of reproductive age.
